About
Public service reform is high on the agenda not only of the UK Government but also of governments around the world. This website aims to be a resource for policy makers, and to remedy a lack of practical evidence of reform success.
Taken together, the case studies suggest:
- Reductions in budgets can be a catalyst for new thinking and better services. The evidence comprehensively disproves the argument that cuts necessarily mean worse services.
- The Coalition Government can be more ambitious in its reform programme. Despite the heated debates on NHS and schools reform, the protection of those budgets means that the achievement of real change has yet to happen.
- Overall, the expectation should be to take 25 per cent of the costs out of public services and achieve better services at the same time. That is a potential saving of tens of billions of pounds, which would make a material difference to the position on austerity and, in the end, levels of taxation.
Please read and share these case studies, and please get involved in the rest of Reform's work. We are an independent, non-party think tank whose mission is to find a better way to deliver public services and economic prosperity in the UK. We hold over a hundred policy events a year with the majority open to the public.
